T&T’s women netball team romped home to take the Americas Federation of Netball Associations (AFNA) Qualifiers title, in St Lucia, last night. The “Calypso Girls” who played unbeaten in five matches, outplayed the host in their final match 58-45 at the Beausejour Indoor Facility, Gros Islet. Led by yet another fine shooting performance from Anastascia Wilson at goalshoot, T&T in the end proved to be too much for the home team. T&T which started the more aggressive, eventually ended the first period with a three point lead 14-11, which was maintained in the second period as it ended 26-23. However, the visitors started to break away in the third and by the end of the period, the lead increased to 12, 42-30. The fourth period was the most competitive, but T&T still managed to outscore its opponents 16-15, to end the match with a 13 point win. On Monday night the twin island women claimed one of the two spot available via this tournament to compete at the 2011 World Championships slated for Singapore, after defeating the United States 49-34. |
